10. Action Bronson – Blue Chips 2

Bronson decided to drop the sequel to my personal favorite Action project, 2011’s Blue Chips. Electronic production duo, Party Supplies, supply the production again, and perhaps you can add Blue Chips 2 to the list of best sequels of all time. If you want a good laugh, check out a teaser he released here.

Standout Tracks: Rolling Thunder, 9.24.13, Twin Peugots

9. MGMT – MGMT

130909-MGMT

MGMT’s selt titled third studio album was one of my most anticipated albums of the year, and although not recieved too well by critics, it was one of my most played albums of 2013. MGMT really strayed away from their signature sound from their past two albums, but nonetheless, MGMT takes you on a weird, enjoyable ride.

Standout Tracks: Cool Song No. 2, Alien Days, A Good Sadness

8. Volcano Choir – Repave

Volcano Choir is one of the many side projects by Bon Iver lead singer, Justin VernonRepave takes us through a journey filled with soothing vocals, and masterful instrumentals, leaving the listener eagerly wanting more.

Standout Tracks: Alaskans, Bygone, Comrade

7. J. Cole – Born Sinner

Unknown

J. Cole avoided the dreadful sophmore slump, and released one of the best hip hop albums of the year, Born Sinner. This may be one of the most underrated projects of the year. J. Cole handled the production on every track, except for the two interludes, and really is stepping into his own now.

Standout Tracks: Trouble, Rich Niggaz, Chaining Day, Let Nas Down

6. Drake – Nothing Was the Same

Known for being very open about his life in his music, Drake does not fail to do so in this album. But it isn’t his story that captivates listeners, as anyone can tell their life story, but instead it’s the way that he tells it. His lyrics in this album are top notch along with his delivery and flow that only seem to get better and better with each album.

Standout Tracks: Tuscan Leather, Furthest Thing, From Time, Too Much, Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2
